The club participates in many events including car shows, local cruise nights and community related activities. It also plays host to what may be the largest "single make" car show in San Diego County. Usually held the first Sunday of October it draws over 300 entries and thousands of fans.
The objectives of the Mustang Club of San Diego are:
- Stimulate the recognition, restoration and preservation of the Ford Mustang automobile.
- Encourage fellowship among members by sponsoring recreational and social activitues.
- Educate members in the maintenance and care of their Mustangs.

This segment was created by Leno to feature two special historical Mustangs. First is the 1962 2-seat concept car (now known as the Mustang I). The second is the 1965 Mustang convertible, VIN 001, the first pre-production Mustang convertible to receive a VIN number (my car is the first pre-production Mustang hard top to receive a VIN, 002). These two very historical cars were brought to Leno’s garage from the Henry Ford Museum in Dearborn, Michigan, for this segment.
Invited to participate on camera with Leno were Lee Iacocca, and myself. The get together was sponsored by Ford. It was supposed to include a yet unreleased for public consumption view with the new 2015 Mustang. Unfortunately, the 2015 never showed up because the prototype was not completed in time for the filming. After the segment was shot, the new 2015 was shown at it’s first public reveal on Dec. 5th in Los Angeles. Since the car was now in LA, it was decided to have it featured as originally planned at the Leno Garage for a taping. After that taping was done, NBC then decided to combine the first segment with the second 2015 segment to make one video including all three cars – now a full time line for the first 50 years of Mustang.
For me personally, it was a special time to be with Mr. Iacocca on camera with the two first historic cars. Enjoy the segment!!
